Circulation Assistant II

DESCRIPTION

The Circulation Assistant II helps create a welcoming, friendly environment where patrons of all ages feel comfortable using the library and its services. This position is much more than working at the circulation desk. In a small library, every day is different, and staff members work together to keep the library running smoothly. One day you may be helping a child find their next favorite book, assisting someone with printing a document, putting away hundreds of books, or posting to social media. The next day you may be setting up for a program, picking up toys after story time, unclogging a toilet, or tackling another unexpected task.

The Circulation Assistant II provides excellent customer service, assists with circulation and patron services, supports library programs and collections, and performs a wide variety of duties as needed. A positive attitude, reliability, flexibility, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed are essential. Starting Pay: $16.00 per hour

Shelving materials

Working with library management software

Checking in/out materials to patrons

Interlibrary loan processing

Contacting patrons

Processing materials

Assisting with and sometimes leading programming

Helping patrons with technology questions

Opening and closing the library

Organizing and cleaning areas in the library

Completing special projects

REQUIREMENTS

Reliability

Flexibility

Ability to work independently

Taking initiative and being proactive

Lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds

Using Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications proficiently

Providing friendly, courteous, and efficient customer service

Communicating effectively and working well with people of all ages

Thriving in a diverse, multi-tasking library environment

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • At a minimum a high school diploma or GED

  • Some customer service and library experience preferred

HOURS

The Circulation Assistant II is a part-time position and is paid on an hourly basis. It requires availability during the day, evenings, Saturdays, and the covering of scheduled and unscheduled staff absences.
